Helping Young People Survive and Thrive on Social Media

About Positive Social

Positive Social exists to help young people survive and thrive in today’s social media world. Our vision is to work with every secondary school in the UK to empower students to use social media positively and equip them to avoid the pitfalls.

Beginnings

Positive Social was founded by Mark and Kerry Saxby, directors of one of the UK’s first specialist social media agencies, Status Social.

Parents of three children themselves, Mark and Kerry were told by a deputy headteacher that 95% of issues in their school were caused by social media – so they decided to act.

They ran their first session for students in a Derby secondary school in 2014. They soon realised there was also a need for teachers and parents to be equipped to support young people in their use of social media.

Funding

Positive Social relies on support from individuals and businesses, and a small contribution from schools to run its sessions. Find out how you can support us.

Our Positive Social sessions are delivered by trained, experienced schools workers. Before every session, the Positive Social team will work with you to identify any particular issues that need to be tackled, or may come up during our time with you.

Derby Telegraph Contribution to the Community Award

Positive Social’s work in schools was recognised in the Derby Telegraph Business Awards. Status Social, whose directors founded Positive Social, were given the Contribution to the Community Award at a glittering ceremony at the Roundhouse.

The sponsor of the award, national shopping retailer, Intu, said it was particularly impressed by the impact of the Positive Social sessions in schools.

Positive Social was also a finalist in the Mainframe Awards in the Best Digital Innovation category.
